    To-mu was like a child, and did not know the most basic facts. He acted like he had never seen people.

    He sought out Luk, the medicine man, and waved a stack of money at him.

    “He wants you to tell him about sicknesses and how you treat them,” Pha said.

    The traders sometimes asked Luk for tips like this too, so this was not such a strange request as To-mu’s other questions. Luk shrugged away the money, and patiently walked around with To-mu, pointing at herbs and insects and explaining their uses.
